Organisation profile

KDE at Queen's was established in 2002 to meet the challenges of data-driven and knowledge-driven large-scale intelligent systems for real-world applications and to complement research in other research clusters.

KDE rapidly expanded and established itself as a leading group in artificial intelligence and data management. Today, it has gained a strong international reputation and recognition in most of the research areas listed below.

KDE research has been deeply influenced by and embedded into real-world applications, such as in security, healthcare, manufacturing, finance and e-commerce, with significant industry collaborations and cross-cluster collaborations. The staff have also developed strong links with other academic disciplines, for example Psychology, Sociology, Medicine and Engineering.

KDE research has been funded by major funding bodies including EPSRC, TSB, Royal Society, Royal Academy of Engineering, the European Commission, InvestNI, and industry.
