Former organisational unit. 01/08/2016. Taken over by School of Arts, English and Languages

      Organisation profile

The School of English has established itself as a centre for academic excellence by gaining 35% 4* and 30% 3*in the 2008 Research Assessment Exercise. The large numbers of monographs with scholarly presses and articles in learned journals testify to its contribution to the international culture of English Studies, as does the School's growing graduate student population. Every area of English studies is a vibrant presence, from Medieval and Early Modern to Eighteenth Century, Modern, Irish and Language, and this is reflected both in forthcoming conferences and the major collaborative research projects currently under way. These include the internationally renowned Seamus Heaney Centre for Poetry, and the Irish Scottish Academic Initiative.
