1916: Remembering the Rising As 2016 draws to a close, join our panel discussion to remember, reflect and re-imagine this pivotal period in Irish history. The panel will feature writers who have approached the subject in diverse and interesting ways. The panel will include: *Marita Conlon-McKenna, author of ‘Rebel Sisters’, which is set in Ireland during the 1916 Rising and is based on the real life Gifford sisters – Muriel, Grace, and Nellie – three young women at the very heart of the Rising. * Mary Morrissy, author of ‘The Rising of Bella Casey’ which explores the life of Bella Casey, an ambitious young schoolteacher, and her relationship with her brother, the celebrated Irish playwright Sean O’Casey. *Dr Fearghal McGarry, author and historian, Reader in Modern Irish History at Queen’s University, Belfast. Author of ‘The Rising: Ireland, Easter, 1916′ Fran Curry, broadcaster with Tipp FM, will chair the panel. This event is made possible due to funding from the Tipperary 2016 programme.
