I represented the Faculty of Medicine, Health and Life Sciences at the meetings of the Task and Finish Group along with a Professor from School of Nursing and Midwifery.
The aim of this group, which is organized by the Graduate School Manager, was to review the University’s provision related to transition and learning support, to identify where the learning support should be considered and to determine potential actions to address issues identified in the feedback. Meeting were held on 29th March, 12th April and 1st May 2018.
This group discussed items which were cross-checked against the First and Second Year Experience and National Student Surveys, as well as the International Student Barometer Survey, to ensure that key issues emerging from the student voice mechanisms were captured.
We strengthened some of the existing elements and compared the support provided by other UK Institutions as Middlesex/Coventry and Nottingham with regards to PhD and MSc academic writing and critical thinking/critical writing.
We met the Graduate School Manager, the Training and Development Manager and staff from INTO. During the meeting, we looked at discipline-specific provisions. We received a thankful email from them mentioning that our suggestions regarding training courses and INTO were incredibly useful.
