This two day work shop hosted by me, Neil Jarman and Professor Beverley Milton-Edwards from the Institute for Conflict Transformation and Social Justice and the School of Politics at Queen's. I Invited two of my research contacts in Rio as guest speakers, Professor Ignaciao Cano from the Rio State University, an internationally recognized researcher on police violence in Brazil and the rest of South America, whose talk was entitled 'Police use of lethal force in Rio de Janeiro'. The second invited guest speaker, was the Chief of Staff of Rio's Military Police and former Commander of the Police Pacifying Units (UPPs), Colonel Robson Rodrigues, who unfortunately could not attend. However, his talk on 'Community Policing in Rio de Janeiro' was delivered by Prof. Cano and myself This has resulted in two grant applications to the Newton Fund (one pending).
