Description

Young Archaeologists’ Club
In conjunction with staff from the CAF I founded the Belfast Branch of the YAC at QUB in 2006 (first session Sat 10th June). Along with Naomi Carver (Branch Leader) I have remained activity involved in the management of the Club since that time. In addition to being an Assistant Leader, I am the Club’s treasurer and responsible for child protection matters. The Club provides children of 6-16 years with an opportunity to gain experience of archaeology. Sessions run on the afternoon of the second Saturday of each month. Our membership has ranged from 30-60 members at any time. The Club has been a recognised QUB Outreach Programme since its initiation.

The Club’s older members and helpers (volunteers aged over 16 years) are now starting to filter in the undergraduate degree in Archaeology and Palaeoecology in QUB and we believe it is a valuable vehicle for recruitment.

Articles about the activities of the Club have been published in Queen’s Now, Archaeology Ireland and a variety of local newspapers.
