Across the 2022–23, 2024–25 and 2025–26 academic years, I served as an academic placement supervisor/visitor for Computing students undertaking professional placements with external organisations.
I supported 10 students across placements including Congruity360 (formerly EDM Consultancy), Liberty Information Technology Ltd, Belfast City Council, bizTech Software and Carson McDowell LLP.
My role involved maintaining academic contact with students during placement, undertaking placement visits and engaging with workplace supervisors to review student progress, professional development and the application of academic learning within the workplace. I supported students in reflecting on their technical and professional development and helped maintain communication between the University, students and placement organisations.
Impact:
The activity strengthened links between academic programmes and employers while supporting students in developing workplace experience, professional confidence and employability skills. Regular engagement with placement organisations also provided direct insight into employer expectations and the technical and transferable skills required of Computing graduates.
