Bridging Communication Gaps – Building a Skilled Cancer Health and Social Care Workforce through Collaboration

Activity: Participating in or organising an event typesParticipation in workshop, seminar, course

Description

I was invited to participate in a one‑day cross‑sector workshop focused on strengthening communication skills across the cancer and wider health and social care workforce. The event brought together people with lived experience, healthcare professionals, educators, policymakers, and training specialists to explore innovative approaches to improving communication in cancer care. Discussions centred on identifying key challenges, sharing best practice, and co‑designing strategies to embed person‑centred communication skills into education, training, and clinical practice. The workshop aligned with Action 53 of the NI Cancer Strategy, which emphasises the need for advanced communication skills training for all professionals delivering sensitive communication.
