Description
Participant in ‘Shakespeare and Morality’ seminar, organised by Dr Neema Parvini, as part of the annual British Shakespeare Association Conference titled ‘Shakespeare Studies Today’. To promote discussion, the papers were circulated and the participants sorted into pairs in advance of the seminar. My paper, ‘The Prodigal Vice of Falstaff and the Structure of Audience Response’, argued that Shakespeare uses the structure of audience response, rather than the narrative structure, of the morality-play tradition and Prodigal Son parable in the Henry IVs. In light of this, it reconsidered the role of Falstaff as Vice and Prodigal Son to show how his effect on audience response produces the moral value of the plays.Period | 16 Jun 2018 |
