Bronze Age upland settlement dynamics: evaluating for climate-related shifts in settlement patterns in Ireland

Using radiocarbon dates generated from single- entity samples and paleoenvironmental data to make localized comparisons, preliminary conclusions are presented that indicate upland settlement and land use persisted on a highly localized basis despite climate shifts and display complex occupational chronologies that both pre and post-date the Bronze Age. Bayesian analysis of the upland radiocarbon datasets have identified a settlement hiatus in upland Ireland during the Early Bronze Age that has no correlation with climate transitions, further supporting the conclusion that climate was not a driver in upland settlement patterns changes in Ireland
