Description

I organised an online international conference on behalf of the Association of Canadian Studies in Ireland (ACSI). The conference was for established, early career and emerging scholars. Speakers were drawn from a variety of countries, including Ireland, Germany, Portugal and Canada.

Papers reflected on a range of key themes within research on Canada, including transitions, decolonialisation, pluriculturalism, interculturalism, indigeneity, translations, multilingualism, the environment and migration.

Professor Kerstin Knopf (Universitaet Bremen), David Kyffin (Embassy of Canada, Dublin) and Martinn Dionne (Quebec Delegation in London) welcomed delegates on behalf of the International Council of Canadian Studies, the Embassy of Canada to Ireland and Délégation générale du Québec à Londres respectively.

72 people attended the conference, which was hosted online by Queen's University Belfast.

The established scholars session was chaired by Dr Julie Rodgers (NUI Maynooth) and included papers by Dr Dervila Cooke (Dublin City University), Professor Simon Harel (Université de Montréal), Professor Michael Cronin (Trinity College Dublin) and Professor Brigitte Johanna Glaser (University of Göttingen). The early career and emerging scholars session was chaired by Dr Silvia Ross (University College Cork) and included papers by Evangeline Kroon (York University), Manuel José Sousa Oliveira (Universidade do Porto), Rebecca Lazarenko (York University) and Dr Angele Alook (York University).
