Teaching the Robot Overlords: A Beginners Guide to Generative AI for TeachersThere has been a lot of press coverage about AI recently mostly sounding alarmist such as that there will be “no credibility in assessments” or that “jobs will disappear”. What is certain is that the genie is out of the bottle and these AI technologies are here to stay, we can’t bury our heads in the silicon sand tempting as that may be. Equally certain is that our young people are already using them. In this workshop we will start to look at the actual picture, try to understand a little bit behind the curtain how large language models work and the educational opportunities they provide. The face of industry is changing and the expectation will be that the employees of tomorrow are able to use AI just as they would any other tool, so we will discuss how this can be framed in the classroom and how important it is for learners to be informed about the responsible use of AI just as with any other new technology. We’ll also touch on how you might be able to use these tools to make your life a little easier as well.
