Description

I support international students especially at their initial transitional stage at QUB and help them to adjust. Students are invited to F2F meetings that included treats. Topics discussed focused on creating a sense of community especially to the newcomers. I provided information on the campus facilities and the various types of support provided by Student Guidance Centre including Visa Extension, Employability events, Summer Studentship etc. During the pandemic, online MS teams were held and focused on the topics mentioned above.Feedback from an International Student, March 2022

Dear Dr. Eiman, Thank you so much for the meeting today, I found it so useful! Kind regards, Priscilla

Through this role, I enrich the students' learning experience by highlighting the facilities and the support they can use and discussed with the 3rd year students the possibility of finding a suitable Postgraduate Degree or a Job after graduation.

In Nov 2022, I arranged a milestone meeting with the Dean of Internationalisation, the Head of International Student Support, The Student Recruitment Manager and the Immigration Advisor and students to make them aware of the various support they have.

As the CBMSE Internationalisation Lead, I have undertaken the following activities:

• I have invited all international students to attend a Welcome Event on the 22nd Sept 2022. It was a great chance for them to get to know each other. The English Language and Academic Skills Course Coordinator for MHLS attended this meeting. She made the students aware of the services and support she can provide. During this event, I provided lots of information about the different types of opportunities and support that international students can make use of.

• The second meeting took place on the 8th November 2022. On this day, the students got the chance to meet and talk to Dean of Internationalisation, the Director and the Associate Director of CBMSE, the tutor of the Communication workshops, the Manager of the International Student Recruitment, the Head of the International Student Support (Mr. Brian Slevin) and the International Student Immigration Advisor (Mr. Tim McQuoid). It was a great opportunity for students to collect lots of relevant information about the various supports and opportunities available and to receive advice, and guidance.

•After communicating with the Tutor of the Communication Workshops in the beginning of the 1st semester, she agreed to undertake three sessions during semester 1 that covered topics such as: How to search effectively for references, how to structure academic essays, and paragraphs and how to reference accurately. She noticed that our current international students were highly engaged and keen to develop good academic practice. She could possibly run another communication workshop later during the 2nd semester.

• I have completed a document for the QAA audit related to our Partnership Agreement with the Hong Kong Institute of Vocational Education.

• Together with the President of the International Student Society (Miss Chow TzeYing), we are going to organize some events in Semester 2 to connect our CBMSE international students with other QUB international students. Successful stories are planned to be shared among the whole group.

An email from an international student that I have supported in her placement in Reno, USA:

Dear Dr. Eiman,

I would like to thank you for all your kind assistance and guidance in the past few months, as I am leaving for Reno on Monday the 15th! I am sincerely very grateful for all of your help, this would have been impossible without your kind help. I will be taking pictures and documenting my experience there to share when I return!

Priscilla

In March 2023,

Students were just asking about the possibility to do a placement after the second year (whom to contact to get a permission) and what are the requirements if they like to join Medicine after they graduate. Just some guidance.

On the other hand, I did a MS teams meeting with the QUB staff who is based in Kuwait to discuss ways to promote the recruitment of Middle East and North Africa Students. Ms Sally Lambe joined this meeting with us. We set an action plan for next year.
