Description

This outreach event was timed to coincide with the official anniversary of the Abolition of Slavery (10 May). A group of 30 schoolchildren, drawn from 3 representative lycees across the island, attended. I began with a presentation on skin colour as a shifting concept through time (eg the fact that the Irish were once seen as black) and moved, through concepts of colorblindness associated with the French Republic, to discuss the question of racism in Martinique.
