I curated the first, all-island dance industry and research conference – “Co-Motion: Dance and Borders” – at the Crescent Arts Centre/QUB on October 25-26, 2019. This was a high-profile, cross-border collaboration between industry partners Dance Ireland (IE), Dance Resource Base (NI), Belfast International Arts Festival, and QUB. Co-Motion featured international keynote speakers (Shobana Jeyasingh (India/UK), Juan Kruz Diaz de Garaio Esnaola and Luc Dunberry (Sasha Waltz and Guests, Berlin)), Fearghus Ó Conchúir (NDC, Wales), leading industry experts (Steven Brett (British Council), Andrew Hurst (Chief Executive, OneDance UK), Valerie Behan (Culture Ireland), Davide Terlingo (Irish Arts Council)), and interviews, guest talks, workshops and performances from a further 17 dance artists, researchers, policy makers and educators. Its open call attracted international submissions and participants and it featured embedded public engagement elements including a reception at Belfast City Hall with opening address by Paula Bradshaw, MLA, and the "just a minute" screendance displays around Belfast supported by Dance Ireland and BIAF.
