Description
Visiting Fellow: Concordia University
For one week, in October 2013, I was a Visiting Fellow at Concordia University, Montreal. I was invited there to deliver a paper that reviews my experiences of researching and teaching oral history in Belfast. My paper was part of the programme offered that year by the prestigious Centre for Oral History and Digital Storytelling. My paper was co-hosted by that Centre and by the new School of Irish Canadian Studies. As part of my trip, I enhanced their links with the Institute of Irish Studies at QUB. I also took part in a workshop on the issue of establishing trust with oral history interviews (with other oral historians and Concordia students). I used the visit to hold discussions with Professor Steven High about his innovative use of digital media with oral history, to examine how my QUB module Recording History might be enhanced further in this respect. We also developed a student exchange/intern programme between COHDS and History at QUB.
