Description

I was involved in consultation and development of an educational resource as part of a PhD project for Mariya Sotirova. The aim of this project was to plan, develop, test and evaluate a web-based intervention for post-surgical self-management rehabilitation to reduce upper limb morbidity after breast cancer surgery.

iEMBRACE (Internet Exercise Modality after BReAst CancEr) was a web-based intervention designed to support post-surgical rehabilitation for breast cancer patients. Developed through a person-based approach and grounded in the Theory of Planned Behaviour, this self-management platform provides tailored exercise guidance based on surgery type. The intervention features exercise demonstration videos with both healthcare professionals and patient models, includes warm-up and cool-down routines, and incorporates reminder and reward functions to encourage adherence. Built through iterative development with breast cancer survivors, the platform aims to reduce upper limb morbidity and improve quality of life during post-operative recovery without requiring direct healthcare professional involvement.
