Description
As a temporary member of the Consumer Council Board for Northern Ireland for a short period in 2018, I contributed to supporting the organisation's mission as the statutory consumer body for the region. The Consumer Council is dedicated to protecting and empowering consumers through a comprehensive range of services, including providing expert advice, resolving complaints, and advocating for consumer rights across various sectors.
The Consumer Council's work spans multiple critical areas, offering guidance on consumer rights, financial savings, and ensuring individuals receive the services and entitlements they are due. The Consumer Council's approach involved conducting in-depth research to understand the real-world challenges faced by consumers, using these insights to drive meaningful advocacy and policy recommendations.
The board's work encompassed a wide range of consumer protection activities, including:
1. Providing comprehensive consumer advice and information 2. Investigating and resolving consumer complaints 3. Advocating for consumer rights across various sectors 4. Conducting research to understand consumer experiences 5. Developing strategies to address consumer challenges in Northern Ireland
This activity was part of a CPANI Mentoring Programme in 2018.
