Development of a Link Nurse Framework for Northern Ireland

Activity: Consultancy typesContribution to the work of national or international committees and working groups

Description

This piece of work follows on from the Review of the Link Nurse Role which I led in 2018. In that review it was recommended that a framework would be developed for use by Trusts in Northern Ireland. In the development of this framework I have worked with Specialist Nurses, Trust Workforce Leads and Link Nurses to draft and finalise the framework. I coordinated contributions to the draft framework, liaised with stakeholders on the final content and consulted with HR Leads in Northern Ireland on a specific aspect of the framework which needed to be clarified and agreed regionally. This important piece of work has been completed and is awaiting ratification by the CNO before launching the framework for use by Trusts throughout Northern Ireland. The framework is keenly anticipated in order to revive and and support the important role of the Link Nurse in teams and wards in nursing clinical practice in Northern Ireland. Possible future work: application of the Link Nurse framework to midwifery practice.
