Description
I initiated, designed and delivered this training with collaborators in Department for Communities for a second year.
This training series was designed to provide an overview of the key facets of contemporary place-making through five tailored thematic sessions, a day long conference (with speakers from the Scottish, Irish and Northern Irish government and councils across the island with a keynote from Milan), peer learning and two overnight field trips to Sligo and Limerick. The training sessions were designed to offer an informal learning environment with an emphasis on reviewing and reflecting upon current regeneration policy and practice. The academy was intended to create a forum for knowledge sharing, networking and to consider opportunities to learn from comparative best practices. The participants were both practitioners and QUB planning students as this arrangement exposed the former to emerging best practices and the latter to real world experience. This initiative led to me winning the Staff Excellence award for 'Making an Impact' in 2023.
