World heritage sites are cultural and natural places deemed to have outstanding universal value by UNESCO. This designation is much sought after by countries due to the economic benefits caused by increased tourist traffic. Attaining this status can be complicated, and retaining it even more so. There are considerable pressures on World Heritage Sites by a range of factors including overcrowding, rapid landscape and climate change. Using examples from around the world, Dr Megarry will explore how digital and non-invasive technologies can be used to both promote cultural sites as World Heritage, and to mitigate and manage sites under threat
