Description
I was the principal organiser of the Early Academics’ Skills Essentials (EASE) workshop at the Sutherland Law School at University College, Dublin. This event was a partnership between QUB Law and UCD Law which focused on the delivery of key skills to PhD students at both Universities. This included research skills, considerations regarding publishing, syllabus design, interview skills and the creation of cover letters and cvs. Academics from QUB, Durham, UCD and Kent were involved in the delivery of sessions.I obtained financing from QUB for a cohort of our PhD students to attend (transportation, accommodation etc) and from UCD for the provision of refreshments throughout the day, as well as the room and equipment. I organised all of the logistics, including the bus, invitation letters for visas, budgeting, financial reports, transport for academics arriving from England, accommodation etc.
I led the syllabus design and research sessions, as well as co-leading the remaining sessions. We also undertook a mock interview of a colleague from QUB, with the head of school in UCD being one of the interviewers.
We held a follow-up event at QUB in 2017.
