Description

1916-2016 Eighth Definitve Series On the 21st January 2016, An Post issued the Eighth Definitive Stamps Series, 1916-2016. Based on the Centenary of the Easter Rising, these sixteen stamps commemorate a hugely significant event in the history of our country, an event which ultimately led to the founding of the modern Irish Republic. These stamps have been grouped into four categories: Leaders and Icons; Participants; Easter Week; and The Aftermath. Although each image represents an individual subject, the themes also reflect a chronological progression from the lead-up to the Rising through to its aftermath. The stamps feature Augmented Reality, and when scanned by a smartphone with the CEE App installed, will give access to background information on the Rising, and also link customers to gpowitnesshistory.ie. The iconic General Post Office, and Roger Casement feature in the National and International Booklets respectively, while a detail from the Proclamation of the Irish Republic, and the Irish Republic flag feature on the coil of 100 self-adhesive stamps. In addition, four First Day Covers, four SOAR strips and three self-adhesive pairs will be available from the date of issue.
