Description

European Centre for International Political Economy Webinar

A discussion with Dr. Christian Bluth about the future of EU trade policy strategy.

Europe’s trade policy may soon start to change as the European Commission and national governments set out to respond to new threats and opportunities. Soon, the Commission will outline a future direction based on its trade policy review from last year. In a new book, Dr. Christian Bluth argues that, of all the new challenges, the most important one facing the EU is the increasingly charged geopolitics of trade. Trade policy is more and more used for projecting power rather generating prosperity, and several countries are “weaponizing” the trade dependence that others have on them. How is the geoeconomic future of trade likely to be shaped – and how should the EU respond to that future?
