Description
An invited lecture for postgraduate students (online)
This lecture offered a critical discussion of the concept of equivalence, its development and gradual demise in Western translation theory. While the distinction between formal and dynamic/functional equivalence has in some ways revolutionized contemporary thinking about translation, it has also invited some problems which become increasingly pressing. How are we to think about translation in terms of equivalence and yet avoid the limitations of this framework?
