Description
The Centre for Creative Ethnography (CFCE), established by anthropologists and ethnomusicologists at the School of History, Anthropology, Philosophy and Politics in June 2023, seeks to explore creative practices around the world, investigate creative dimensions of ethnographic work, and contribute to theoretical debates about creativity and improvisation.CFCE’s main aims are to:
• promote the work of scholars within the School of History, Anthropology,
Philosophy and Politics in the study of creative practices
• develop creative ethnographic research and teaching methodologies
• work with academics within and outside QUB to develop these fields
through joint workshops, conferences, and research applications
• engage in internationalisation (with partner universities and others) through
face-to-face and online creative teaching initiatives
• collaborate with creative practitioners, community groups, and local
initiatives and festivals to increase the societal impact of ethnographic
research
• showcase and share the outcomes of creative research and teaching
projects
Key research questions that CFCE seeks to address include:
• How and why are people around the world engaged in creative practices?
• What is the relation between creative production, power, and inequality?
• What are the creative dimensions of standard ethnographic methods?
• How can academic researchers draw on artistic and other creative practices
to develop new research approaches?
• How can face-to-face, hybrid, and online modes of communication be used
to investigate processes of creative production?
