Origins and aims
The Policing Working Group was established at the 8th annual meeting of the European Society of Criminology in Edinburgh in 2008. From the outset it has sought to act as a ‘hub’ through which to connect members of the ESC with interests in policing (broadly defined), and through this to foster the sharing of ideas, collaboration and networking amongst them. We have encouraged members to be proactive in organising themed panel sessions at the annual conferences (rather than just submitting individual abstracts) as these can provide for more focused sessions, evidenced by the fact that a number of them have resulted in publications. We have also run a number of pre-conferences in order to bring members of the working group together to build momentum for the rest of the conference.
