Expert Contribution to RPFNI’s response to the Department of Justice’s Adult Restorative Justice Strategy

In September 2020, I made significant contributions in the RPFNI’s response to the Department of Justice’s Adult Restorative Justice Strategy. My contributions focused primarily on the necessary safeguards that needs to be in place, particularly where cases involving adults were being considered. These include legislation that will ensure consistency and that a high standard is maintained across various regions in Northern Ireland; detailed guidelines for facilitators to ensure they do not operate outside the scope of the law; and the state must play a supervisory role to ensure the RJ process does not contravene existing statutes.
