Description
This workshop will be divided between a presentation of my theoretical and methodological ‘doing hair’ process and engaged practical and interactive group work. The theoretical and methodological parts of the workshop will cover Ruth’s personal rational for developing the ‘doing hair’ methodology, a glance at the supporting literature. Followed by a description of the theoretical framework that builds upon Goffman’s routine performances and Hochschild’s emotional labour concept, and an in-depth description and reflection of the embodied interview process.Throughout the workshop you will engage in practical and interactive group activities that will help you to complete the four learning objectives below
Learning objectives
1. Understand the importance of reflecting on your own lived experiences in developing research methods.
2. Have a broader understanding of embodied research practices.
3. Appreciate the need for creative methods for research exploring sensitive topics such as sexual experiences.
