I was appointed as External Examiner in accordance with Waterford Institute of Technology regulations. As external examiner I monitored the fitness of the programme for purpose and practice within the context of national and international standards and developments with a specific focus on programme assessment criteria/schedule and the standards achieved in both course work and examinations. My role was to ensure a valid and reliable assessment process to a standardised criterion that reflected the learning outcomes to be achieved for a specific module. I was tasked with monitoring and reviewing examination papers prior to their delivery, scrutinised a selection of student assessments to ensure their integrity. I attended regular programme boards and I submitted annual quality assurance reports to the Registrar’s Office.
