Description
In 2016, members of the Faculty of Medicine, Health and Life Sciences participated in the establishment of the Faculty Distance Learning Hub, an initiative driven by Alistair Finlay and Prof Mark Lawlor in collaboration with academic and professional services colleagues. The Hub was created to improve and expand distance and blended learning provision across the Faculty and to develop a coordinated strategic approach to digital and online education.
Hub members contributed to early implementation activity, including completion of a Faculty-wide pro-forma audit to map existing and planned digitally supported programmes, platforms, staffing models, and accessibility practices. These contributions helped establish a shared evidence base to inform Faculty decision-making around infrastructure, resourcing, and pedagogical development for distance learning.
The activity supported institutional priorities relating to digital transformation, flexible learning pathways, and enhancement of student access, and aligned with SDG 4 (Quality Education) through the promotion of inclusive, technology-enabled educational provision.
