Description
Launch of the Annual Grant Award Programme in October 2024 as a founding member of the EFEM Annual Grant Award Programme (one of the 4 selected international experts for the EFEM Award Committee). This work exemplifies my ongoing commitment to international leadership within anatomical sciences organisations and academic support.I played a leading role in the design, development, and successful launch of the EFEM Annual Grant Award Programme. This new initiative aimed to support the professional development of PhD students and early-career researchers in the field of experimental morphology by funding participation in international scientific meetings and research training opportunities.
This programme offers two highly competitive grants annually: €700 for travel to present at scientific conferences in experimental morphology or €1000 for research activities or short-term training at external institutions. My involvement has strengthened EFEM’s support of academic excellence across its affiliated societies and reinforced its role in nurturing the next generation.
My key contributions to this strategic initiative included:
1- Co-developing the structure and governance of the newly established EFEM Award Committee, setting its remit, operational framework, and terms of reference.
2- Leading the design of application eligibility criteria, ensuring its inclusivity across member societies, drafting comprehensive assessment guidelines and scoring criteria to ensure a fair evaluation process.
3- Formulating the conditions of award and post-award accountability, including requirements for reporting, outcome dissemination and championing equitable review, including prioritisation of oral presentations and host institution affiliations with EFEM-member societies.
