3 FREE ACTIVITIES in the Foyer Area of Somme Museum:
1. Bring your WW1 Objects, Tell your WW1 Stories
If you have any family letters, photographs, diaries, or other objects from the war, bring them along and have them professionally scanned by our digital experts.
2. Learn how to Build a WWI Trench
Using an Augmented Reality SandBox, explore how different types of trenches were created during WW1 and discover how trench warfare changed over the course of the Great War.
3. See Yourself at the Frontline
Choose from one of our five historic WW1 background images and place yourself back in time on the frontline in France using our ‘green screen technology’.
2nd July and 3rd July 2016:
“From Clandeboye to Thiepval” – a journey through maps and landscapes
A specially-produced information film using historic maps of Clandeboye and the Battle of the Somme, Prof Keith Lilley guides you through the places troops trained and fought (film showing throughout the weekend).
“Remembering the Somme” walking tour and talks
Step back 100 years to 1916 and the Battle of the Somme. Learn of the gallant contribution of the soldiers from the 36th Ulster Division and follow in their footsteps as you walk through their training camp to Helen’s Tower. Tours will take place 2nd and 3rd of July at 10 am and 2 pm.
