2018–2020 – Principal InvestigatorInternational Comparison of Occupational Health Systems and Provision

This project produced a comparative analysis of occupational health systems and service provision across multiple countries, examining legal frameworks, delivery models, coverage, and access to occupational health services. The work provided robust international evidence on how occupational health systems are organised and funded, and how different models support workforce health and labour-market participation.
Policy and Practice Impact
Findings from this work have been cited and used within UK government policy and practice documentation concerned with improving occupational health provision. In particular, the research informed and was referenced in DWP policy development and consultation documents, including the Health is Everyone’s Business agenda and subsequent consultations on strengthening occupational health services (e.g. Occupational Health: Working Better).
The international comparisons provided by this research have been used to contextualise UK occupational health provision, inform policy discussion on service coverage and delivery models, and support evidence-based consideration of reforms to occupational health systems.
