  • Joanne Murphy (Consultant)

Activity: Consultancy typesCPD delivery/organisation of courses for externals (in kind)

Description

This programme aims to enhance the practical leadership skills of a cohort of senior Garda leaders. Embedded within an academic framework, it is intended to raise the awareness, performance, impact and judgement of Garda leaders and to embed the leadership behaviours necessary to make and shape the future of Irish policing.
Specifically, it will:
• Provide participants with a comprehensive and in-depth immersion in the complex field of leadership theory. Participants will integrate and critically appraise the field of leadership studies with particular reference to its application in a policing context.
• Support participants as they undertake a personal journey toward developing a detailed understanding of their personal leadership styles, capabilities, and development areas, and enable them to articulate, demonstrate and role-model leadership behaviours appropriate to achieving the significant process of change required to make and shape the future of Irish policing.
• Facilitate critical analysis of the leadership cultures, styles, processes and needs of their organisation and empower and equip them to develop and embed an open, collaborative and trust-based culture within their organisation.
• Support participants as they formulate a cohesive suite of theory-based recommendations for developing best-practice leadership in a policing context.

The programme draws on global leading theory and best practice in the field of leadership and its application in a policing context. Participants are expected to draw on their workplace experience during workshop activities and in assignments, and in turn apply learning and insights from the programme into the workplace.
