Organised (with Dr Judith Wylie, Psychology) a competition for undergraduate students within the Faculty of Engineering and Physical Sciences to be nominated by Queen's for a place on the University of Pittsburgh's 2024 Hesselbein Global Academy for Leadership and Civic Engagement.
98 students from Queen's applied. Given the number and quality of applicants, I negotiated with the University of Pittsburgh to increase the number of nominations we could make from 2 to 8. All of the students we nominated were successful in gaining a place on the programme: Shazeya Ahamed (Psychology), Nyan Linn Htet (MAE), Aoife Campbell (NBE), Eoin Fegan (NBE), Lauren Fegan (EEECS), James Curry (EEECS), Aarushi Ganguli (NBE) and Ellen-Jane Boyd (MAE). EPS's JetSet programme funded the students' travel costs and the University of Pittsburgh provided an endowed fellowship to fund programme fees, local travel, accommodation and food.
The students from EPS joined other HGA Fellows from 11 different countries for a week of workshops, mentoring, networking and community outreach.
