This Queen's University Belfast led study, designed and managed by myself, is examining the role of circulating biomarkers in oesophago-gastric and pancreatic cancer. We have established routine collection of tissue and plasma samples from patients undergoing palliative chemotherapy for advanced oesophageal cancer at the Northern Ireland Cancer Centre. We have recently extended the study to include patients receiving neo-adjuvant and adjuvant chemotherapy for pancreatic cancer. This study will enable the development of novel, non-invasive circulating prognostic and predictive biomarkers in upper gastrointestinal cancer.
