Impact in critical Higher Education Studies? Exploring the creative arts and figurative representation. Invited talk for Higher Education & Human Development (HEHD) Brown Bag Series, The University of the Free State
Activity: Talk or presentation types › Invited talk
Description
For those whose intent is informing change, frustrations from the lack of impact of HE research on HE can be particularly acute. It cannot be naively assumed that research findings will be appreciated nor acted upon by the practitioners or institutions to which the research relates. Researching the institution of higher education from within the institution of higher education comes with many complications, risks and detours; in no small part because the register of narrative realism may not engender the transformative changes required for substantial commitments to effect change against the dominant hegemonic order. This Brown Bag talk will be a frank, informal discussion of the intentionality behind initiatives which utilise representation that is figurative and experiential, such as in the Counter // Narratives in Higher Education Project, including hopes, self critique, uncertainties and the need for more research and more reporting about the complications of informing higher education transformation.
The discussant for this talk was Dr Marguerite Muller of Imperial College London.
