International Collaboration: Metaverse-based Learning for Human Flourishing through the Strategy in Person-Centred Medical Education

Medical education evolves alongside human development and technological advances. This multi-year study (August 2023 - July 2025) introduces a new model of Person-Centered Medical Education (PCME) by incorporating cutting-edge Technology-Enhanced Learning (TEL) tools, including virtual reality and metaverse-based XR technologies. These applications aim to enrich medical students’ understanding of Adolescents and Young Adults (AYA) patients’ experiences, fostering innovative, holistic care approaches.

The anticipated outcomes of the project focus on developing innovative pedagogical approaches and educational tools for the future of person-centred medical education. Key deliverables include:

a)Enhanced XR Learning Modules: Immersive modules using metaverse-based simulations to provide students with experiential learning focused on AYA (Adolescents and Young Adults) patient care, fostering empathy and understanding of their unique needs.

b)Teaching Frameworks and Curriculum Models: Creation of adaptable frameworks to integrate XR and metaverse technologies into medical education, emphasizing holistic care and human flourishing.
