Introducing Reflection and Context in Practice (RCP) sessions across the Doctorate in Clinical Psychology Programme: Development, implementation and outcomes

An increased focus on the importance of Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) at all tiers of Clinical Psychology from external and internal drivers (BPS Accreditation Standards, 2025; QUB strategy 2030) led to the refinement and expansion of existing personal and professional development (PPD) content delivered across the DClinPsy training programme.

The Reflection and Context in Practice (RCP) workshops aim to increase opportunities for trainee clinical psychologists to reflect on EDI considerations, professional issues and wider societal factors which influence training and the profession more generally. These include planetary health, racism, inequality, workforce challenges, and digital technologies. Trainees are invited to reflect on their positionality and how this, and the wider themes, influence the profession, their practice and the practice of others. The drivers for these sessions, the process of development, alongside initial feedback from both trainees and facilitators will be discussed in this presentation.
