Invited Talk from the University of Glasgow to deliver an in-person Seminar in June 2026 on Flipped Classroom – Principles, Framework and Guideline. This invitation followed the release of my publication in the Medical Science Educator Journal The application of flipped classroom strategies in medical education: a review and recommendations

Activity: Talk or presentation typesInvited talk

Description

This seminar will explore the flipped classroom model as an active learning strategy within anatomy and medical education. The session will introduce the core principles, educational framework and evidence-based guidelines underpinning flipped learning, drawing on best practice. Participants will be guided through the design of both out-of-class activities (such as short, pre-recorded videos, targeted readings and formative quizzes) and in-class activities that promote engagement, peer learning and critical thinking.
Using a practical case study from anatomy teaching, the seminar will demonstrate how digital resources, quizzes and interactive tools can be effectively aligned with face-to-face learning activities. Considerations around video design, student preparation, engagement strategies and common challenges in implementation will also be discussed. The seminar will conclude with a comparison of traditional versus flipped classroom approaches, reflections on student feedback and a step-by-step guide for educators interested in adopting or refining flipped instruction within their own anatomy or healthcare curricula.
Learning Outcomes:
• Understand the principles and educational rationale of the flipped classroom model
• Apply a structured framework to design flipped learning activities
• Identify practical strategies and potential limitations when implementing flipped teaching in anatomy education
