Description

This presentation reports a teaching innovation evaluating a simulation-based education session for registered nurses administering cytotoxic and biological therapies outside oncology settings. Ten nurses enrolled on HSN3150 (Queen's University Belfast) took part in three sequential simulation scenarios — hypersensitivity reaction during IV inflixmab, cytotoxic spillage, and rituximab extravasation — with anaphylaxis addressed through facilitated debrief. Pre/post measures captured self-reported learning gains and clinical self-efficacy, alongside acceptability data. The work addresses a recognised gap in simulation pedagogy for non-oncology cytotoxic and biologic nursing and proposes a replicable model for postgraduate, mixed-speciality cohorts.
