PhD student Jennifer D'Anna from University of Palermo hosted at Queens for a period of 9 months to carry out an experimental and numerical research project on strengthening techniques for rectangular masonry columns under axial load.

The project focuses on the design and testing of clay brick masonry prisms confined with FRCM wraps. The experimental testing is aimed at studying the effective stress on the external wrap at failure and on the axial capacity of the confined masonry specimens.

The experimental testing will support a numerical/analytical model to predict the compressive behaviour of masonry columns, focusing on both strength and buckling issues.
