Latin America Week

Latin America Week: comprised a series of public events aimed at show casing research and cultural activities in Queen's University and local artists relating to Latin America and the links to Northern Ireland. As chair of the committee I organised: •1 public reception attended by the Chilean Ambassador and inaugurating the photographic exhibition by Adam Patterson. •1 photographic exhibition focusing on the work of local Northern Irish photographer, Adam Patterson, who had been involved in the Chilean mining disaster (Film and Drama Centre) •1 textile exhibition detailing the use of 'arpilleras' to engage with issues and experiences of conflict in Northern Ireland and Latin America (Welcome Centre) •A Latin American film festival: in collaboration with the QFT and participation of PGR students to introduce the films. •1 public debate: bringing together representatives of charities and NGOs that promote work between Northern Ireland and Latin America. •With Dr Suzel Reily (Ethnomusicology) a performance and workshop of a Brazilian 'Boi'.
