I organised the Association of Canadian Studies in Ireland's first online biennial conference. This was the association's 20th biennial conference.The conference was opened by Mr Pierre Gabriel Côté (Agent-General), Délégation générale du Québec à Londres / Québec Government Office in London.
Keynote speakers included Professor Jane Koustas (Brock University, Canada), Perrine Leblanc (ecrivaine Quebecoise, Canada) and Professor Emeritus Axel Meisen (University of British Columbia, Canada). Participants in the conference included presenters and delegates from across Europe, North America, the UK, and the island of Ireland.
107 people attended the conference, which was hosted online by Queen's University Belfast. Over 80% of attendees were from either North America or continental Europe.
This interdisciplinary conference drew upon the arts, humanities and social sciences to explore in relation to Canada’s past, present and future the theme of borders, imagined or otherwise, their making, negotiation, reconfiguration and dissolution. Papers, performances or other contributions will address the following topics -Border poetics-Figurative borders, their meaning & contestation-Narratives of journeys, borders, crossings & encounters with difference-Mobility, circulation & border-making -Governing linguistic & sociological demarcations-Indigenous conceptions of space & nation-building-Navigating borderlands of thought & practice-Comparative frames of reference & geopolitical dimensions-From de-bordering to re-bordering & beyond-Concept, frames of reference & the making of Canada-Re-imagining borders / learning from Canada.
