Description

Belfast Met College to be re-awarded as College of Sanctuary at the end of the month. I joined their appraisal team which was formed of two other members to review the application and offer feedback. Recognition Panel (ideally included a local member of the City of Sanctuary grouption, someone who has lived experience of seeking sanctuary and me with a background in education):

I have been invited by the Director of Operations of the UK City of Sanctuary based in England to be a member of the Sanctuary Appraisal Panel for Belfast Met College (formed of 4 members). Her email is below. I was asked to give feedback and recommendations for Belfast Met and to query some points if needed in their Sanctuary Application and then with the other 3 members to decide if we are going to offer Belfast Met a re-accreditation or not.

This is besides my presentation for QUB Sanctuary Appraisal

Rosie Tapsfield Director of Operations for UK City. of Sanctuary Organisation: Thank you again for all of your support with the Belfast Met appraisal - this is really appreciated. In terms of the feedback, queries and recommendations that you have detailed - this is really helpful and very comprehensive. I have drafted up an appraisal form with a slimmed down version of feedback, including many of your points, and would be keen to know how this looks to you and whether you feel it covers the main points. Will forward this on to you and really happy to discuss next week if you feel more detail is needed.

the time commitments and timelines are as follows:
13th February @ 10am - FE Colleges Appraisal Training (online - this will be recorded so if necessary you can catch up later. Register here.)
28th February - Final application received for review
W/c 10th March - Appraisal Team Meet online for an hour to discuss application feedback to share with college
W/c 28th April or 5th May - FE College appraisal meetings/ visits to discuss feedback with the college and confirm final decision.
Involvement in the appraisal should take no more than 4/5 hours total over the course of 3 months.

It a rewarding experience and an opportunity to celebrate a college going above and beyond to support people seeking safety whilst offering helpful feedback to help them to continue to improve.

Rosie Tapsfield Director of Operations of the UK City of Sanctuary Organisation: Your feedback was super helpful
