Activity: Talk or presentation typesInvited or keynote talk at national or international conference

Description

This one-day, metaverse-based experience, led by Dr. Matt Birch and Dr. Paul Best, was designed to discuss and showcase a range of eHealth-related immersive learning projects developed in recent years through interdisciplinary partnerships between members of the School of Nursing and Midwifery and the School of Social Sciences, Social Work, and Education, in collaboration with the Centre for Technological Innovation, Mental Health, and Education. This educational, lecture-based session provided Taiwanese participants with a glimpse into the theory and techniques behind the team's approaches to virtual reality, augmented reality, and serious gamification related digital learning development.

The session also highlighted how the Centre for Technological Innovation, Mental Health, and Education authentically brings together academics, researchers, educators, educational technologists, and industry and practice partners who work at the intersection of people and technologies. Their focus is on the human-centred affordances and challenges of technological innovation in health and social care.

This session ties directly to Queen’s University’s Strategy 2030 by advancing the goals of transformative education, global research collaboration, and sustainability. By utilising immersive digital technologies, it aligns with the university’s commitment to providing cutting-edge educational experiences that prepare students to meet global challenges. The interdisciplinary nature of the session also reflects the strategy’s emphasis on fostering collaboration across sectors and disciplines to drive impactful research. Additionally, by leveraging digital tools, the session contributes to sustainability by reducing the environmental impact of traditional educational methods and supporting the university's focus on the UN Sustainable Development Goals.
