Invited presentation at the conference Political Consequences of
Economic Crisis: Voting and Protesting in Europe since 2008, April 17th-18th,
2012, Department of Government and BMW Center for German & European
Studies, Georgetown University.
This paper discusses the patterns of protest mobilizations in Greece before and after the onset of the crisis and the accompanying austerity measures and identifies points of continuity and differentiation after locating them in the international context. It also discusses the findings from an online survey of the Indignants mobilizations. The conclusion identifies a new type protest activist and a breakdown of traditional political allegiances.
