When people experience trauma, others believe the obvious outcome is posttraumatic stress disorder. This is true for some, but it is not the case for most. Indeed, three quarters of survivors are known to be resilient; meaning they do not develop psychological disorders. Therefore, important questions are, 'what makes some people resilient to trauma whereas other are not?' and 'what are we really talking about when we talk about resilience?
Based on decades of research Professors George A Bonanno and Cherie Armour will discuss the current thinking in relation to posttraumatic resilience and explore Professor Bonanno's new book; The End of Trauma. This event promises to improve understand of how people cope with, and flourish during, some of the hardest times of life.
