Description
This Workshop aimed to provide a platform for sharing knowledge, identifying challenges in discovery AI and AI-led discovery research in health, showcasing the state of the art in this field, and fostering collaboration among researchers and innovators in the field.
The workshop took place on 23 June 2023 and brought together experts in the UK working in AI, causality, medical imaging, deep learning, and AI driven drug discovery/repurposing.
The workshop began with an overview of Discovery AI by Professors Hui Wang and Iain Styles from Queen's University Belfast (QUB). The workshop featured presentations by experts from various institutions, including:
1. Prof Jose Bengoechea from QUB, who discussed the use of AI and machine learning approaches to combat antimicrobial resistance (AMR).
2. Prof Helene McNulty and Dr Catherine Hughes from Ulster University, who presented on utilizing AI to address health-related issues in older people, specifically focusing on the TUDA North-South resource for discovery research in ageing.
3. Prof Guang Yang from Imperial College London, who talked about generative models for medical imaging and analysis.
4. Prof Reyer Zwiggelaar from Aberystwyth University, who discussed medical image analysis, with a focus on understanding the interaction and predictive power using different breast imaging modalities.
5. Prof Karla Diaz-Ordaz from UCL and LSHTM, who presented on causality in AI research.
6. Prof Timothy Hospedales from the University of Edinburgh, who spoke about machine learning.
